Waitomo deputy mayor appointed WESCT Trustee

The Waitomo Energy Services Customer Trust (WESCT) is delighted to announce the appointment of Guy Whitaker as an elected “B” Trustee representing major customers.

William Oliver, Chair of WESCT, says Guy brings experience in local business and deep community connections to the Trust.

“Guy adds his skills and experience to the strong group of trustees on WESCT. The role is an important one as we look after our community’s 100% interest in The Lines Company, and I know Guy’s local business experience will be valuable.”

Guy Whitaker has lived in the Waitomo district since 2004. He is the managing director of Appliance Plus in Te Kūiti and is the Waitomo District Council deputy mayor and councillor.

Mr Whitaker says he is looking forward to the role, saying that WESCT plays an important part in the
progression and growth of the region. “I believe the benefits and opportunities of The Lines Company (TLC) being locally owned are significant to our district. I look forward to working with the Trust to keep our community asset working for all.”

Mr Oliver says Mr Whitaker began his duties in April and replaced outgoing “B” Trustee Peter Keeling. Mr Oliver thanked Peter for his services to WESCT and wished him well with his future endeavours.

“Peter’s contribution to the Trust since 2018, with two years as Chair, saw the Trust strengthen its reputation for delivering annual energy discounts to trust members in our community through their 100% ownership of The Lines Company. He also led WESCT through significant change including the transition to retailer billing. We wish him well.”

Guy joins existing Trustee Cathy Prendergast as the second of the two “B” Trustees of WESCT. With Guy and Cathy being the two nominations for the two vacant roles no election was required. They will hold the roles of “B” Trustees until March 31, 2025.
